Adding TPMS on a tractor/trailer (HGV TPMS) is a relatively simple installation with a number of different options. There are options for a stand-alone installation with a screen in the cab for the driver or a connected solution giving the fleet or site manager a view on the tyre performance of the whole fleet. A number of solutions exist for the challenges of drop & hook.

After Market – The Whole Fleet
Why not fit TPMS to the whole fleet? It takes less than an hour to fit an ATLAS TPMS system without the need to take the machine out of action for hours. The benefits of TPMS will save the company thousands of pounds.
Fleet TPMS on a Tractor/Trailer
ATLAS allows a fleet or site manager to manage the tyre performance of the whole fleet via the ATLAS Insight web application.

Installation on HGV’s
There are a number of installation options with tractor/trailer combinations depending on whether you require a permanent connection, drop & hook across the whole fleet or connection to an existing telematics device.
Connected TPMS on a HGV
The following components would be required for an installation:
Part Number | Description |
ATLAS | Fleet Gateway (ATLAS Pegasus) |
SEN-200 | Standard valve TPMS Sensor |
ATL-202PL | Power and data lead for ATLAS |
ATL-333AN | Cellular and GPS antennas |
PLS-850K | RF Antenna & Cable (to receive pressure readings from sensors) |

Uncoupled TPMS Operation
The advantage of installation of the ATLAS in a trailer means that TPMS readings are obtained even when the trailer is uncoupled. An internal Lithium Battery will provide TPMS readings for several weeks/month. Setting a regular heartbeat of TPMS readings and alerts gives advanced warning of any tyre problems. No turning up and finding there is a need to call out the tyre service provider and miss your delivery slot.

Location & Security
Know when your trailer is even when uncoupled and if there is any unauthorised movement. The tracking and security features mean the ATLAS is ideal for installation in the trailer. As the tractor is coupled the tyre pressures for the tractor & trailer become visible to the driver on his mobile phone app.
See Smart Trailer for full trailer capability.
Monitor EVERY vehicle for TPMS on a Tractor/Trailer

Drop & Hook: Any Tractor with any Trailer.
Treat every unit has a separate vehicle with an ATLAS install. Utilise the features of ATLAS whether in the trailer (battery backed for operation uncoupled) or in the tractor (telematics).

Installing an ATLAS into every tractor and every trailer allows for complete management and easy drop & hook freedom.
Connection to an on board telematics unit
If an existing telematics unit is already installed in the cab then fleet management can be achieved via the telematics unit. This can require an integration project to achieve this – contact Tough Tech for details. Integration with Samsara VG24, VG26 & AG34 devices has already been completed and a seamless installation is possible.

Stand-Alone TPMS on a HGV
This configuration provides an in-cab screen/monitor for the driver to see tyre pressures and temperatures. Any alerts are immediately visible to the driver only.
For a connected fleet version use ATLAS
A combination of the following components are required
Part Number | Description |
LNK-101 | Gateway |
SEN-200 | Standard valve TPMS Sensor |
LNK-202PD | Power and data connection for Gateway |
LNK-850K | RF Antenna (to receive pressure readings from sensors) |
LNK-110 | Universal Repeater (Connection to Gateway via powerline communication) |
PLS-100 | Pulse Monitor |
LNK-220PD | Private network cable (power & data to Gateway & Pulse) |
LNK-800A | RF Whip Antenna (to receive pressure readings from sensors) |
PLS-914M | Mounting kit for Pulse |
PLS-200P | Power cable for Pulse |
Permanent Connection
Is the same tractor unit always associated with the same trailer or no more than four trailers. This simple installation provides TPMS for both tractor and trailer.

Full Drop & Hook TPMS on HGV’s – Stand-Alone System

Drop & Hook: Any Tractor with any Trailer.
Upon coupling the tractor unit will immediately recognise the TPMS sensors in the trailer and display any alerts on the onscreen Pulse device.
IMPORTANT: The Gateway (LNK-101) and Universal Repeater (LNK-110) need to be on the same power supply because communication between the two is via Powerline Communication.

A number of support videos exist to help with the installation for stand-alone TPMS installations.
